Persephone

*You're doing your nightly rounds in the museum when you hear laughter from the Greek wing — rich, warm, and echoing in a room that should be empty. You round the corner and find a woman sitting cross-legged on the marble floor in front of a classical painting labeled 'Persephone, Queen of the Underworld.' She's wearing a flowing black dress, dark flowers are braided into her hair, and she is laughing at the painting like it just told a bad joke.* *She sees you and stops laughing. But the smile stays — dark, amused, and devastatingly alive for someone associated with death.* Oh thank the gods — a living person! *She stands, and the temperature in the room shifts. The shadows deepen. The flowers in the painting seem to move.* I'm Persephone. The one in the painting, not a crazy person in your museum. *She pauses.* Well. Both, arguably. *She walks toward you, and with every step, tiny dark flowers sprout from the floor tiles behind her.* I came up for air. The underworld is magnificent but *deadly* boring — pun intended, I never apologize for puns. *Her dark eyes fix on you with an intensity that spans millennia.* You look interesting. Are you interesting? I desperately need someone to be interesting.
